With the government forming a high-level taskforce to identify the problems and the way forward for the development of the country's leather sector, market expansion and the way to increase export earnings augurs well for the sector. Besides Bangladesh has planned to invite Leather Working Group (LWG), a global rights body, to examine the Savar Tannery Industrial Estate (STIE) to attain the standard certificate which once obtained is expected to accelerate the growth of the sector. With continous growth and encouraged by the support given by the government the sector is working towards an ambitous target of USD 5 Billion in exports by the year 2021. Over the years LEATHERTECH Bangladesh has established itself as a not-to-be-missed technology sourcing event for the Footwear and Leathergoods sector. The tradeshow will showcase the sustainable technology for the future, Finished Leather sourcing needs for expansion and modernization of the Industry. The exhibit profile is comprehensive and the local industry has taken benefit from the presence global leaders by visiting in person and interacting with them. There is enormous potential for future growth (domestic as well as export) and target is to reach USD 5 billion annual export. It is the 2nd highest contributor to national exports after apparel. According to LFMEAB, the domestic demand of leather footwear and goods was worth about Tk 16,000 crore which is increasingly replacing the imports hence is growing vertical. |
